Central Beijing Highlights

Tiananmen Square

Directly south of the Forbidden City, this is the world's largest public square. It houses the Monument to the People's Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong.

Note: Security checks are required to enter the square.

Jingshan Park

Located immediately north of the palace exit, this former imperial garden is home to the highest point in central Beijing. The view from the top of the hill offers the best panorama of the Forbidden City.

Beihai Park

One of the oldest and largest ancient imperial gardens in China, located to the northwest. It's famous for the White Dagoba on Qionghua Island and its beautiful lake.

National Museum of China

On the eastern side of Tiananmen Square, this is one of the largest museums in the world, covering the entire history of China from ancient times to the modern era.

Wangfujing Street

Located a short walk east of the Forbidden City, Wangfujing is Beijing's most famous shopping street. It offers a mix of modern department stores, traditional Chinese brands, and a famous snack street (though the snack street has been recently renovated).

Qianmen Street (Dashilan)

To the south of Tiananmen Square lies Qianmen Street, a historic shopping area that has been restored to its late Qing Dynasty appearance. Explore traditional Chinese medicine shops, silk stores, and authentic Beijing cuisine.

National Centre for the Performing Arts

Commonly known as "The Egg," this ultra-modern titanium and glass dome is located to the west of Tiananmen Square. It stands in stark contrast to the ancient architecture nearby and hosts world-class performances.
